Questacon is increasing participation in science engagement activities not just within Australia but around the world. Questacon has a role in cultural diplomacy with its international events facilitating people-to-people, institution-to-institution and country-to-country interactions through popular hands-on science exhibits and science shows as well as science communicator and teacher workshops.
The international science centre sector is comprised of approximately 2500 science centres worldwide, they receive over 310 million visitors annually. As a leader in the sector Questacon makes a significant contribution to its global development and is an active member of the Association of Science Technology Centers (ASTC), the peak body of the science centre sector.
Questacon has also cultivated strong relationships with several Asian countries and for more than a decade it has supported the ongoing development of the Asia Pacific Network of Science and Technology Centres (ASPAC).
Questacon welcomes over a dozen international delegations to the Centre each year from every continent across the globe. The wide-ranging groups—ambassadors, teachers, museum association representatives, government officials, science centre staff and university professors—visit Questacon to learn about its programmes and operations.
Continued participation in these different International events and settings provide Questacon with the opportunity to showcase our various models of successful operation, keep abreast of trends in the science centre sector, to assist in the development of upcoming science communication centres in neighbouring countries and to exchange ideas and knowledge.
